What's Inside My Fake Quartz Watch?

April 14, 2016

Every Friday I pick a random product on Instagram, I disassemble it, examine it and make a stop motion story with its parts. Every week the result is completely different and unexpected.

Here I share how it all comes about!

This week I picked a watch and was totally excited, because to me watches equal gears! And gears are my true Love.

But it only took a second to realise that this is a fake Polo watch... the numbers where all floating inside and I knew it needed a battery, so I didn't expect it to be a mechanical watch!

The first thing I worry about every Tinker Friday is 'How will I open this!' On many Tinkering days, I spend more time trying to figure out how to open a product than thinking of the actual stop motion idea! Most of the times there is a hidden screw somewhere!

It was pretty easy to open! Mine had the recess marks, which means it has a screw back (like a bottlecap), other types would have snap backs.

I expected to see more inside there! Definitely the tiniest gears I have ever seen! I like to examine the pieces first and try to make educated guess about how it works before googling the facts, it's more fun that way!

Tiny tiny pieces! All so fascinating! I even found the tiniest Magnet inside!

For the true facts about how watches work, watch this and this... and NOW you know!

To make my lil creatures, I lay down all the pieces, and instantly see a dragon's head! And this is where the quartz is put! How cool is that! Annnd there are band flaps, there it is, Khaleesi, Mother of Dragons had to be born! Must be my excitement for the new Game of thrones season! It wasn't easy putting together Queen Daenerys, definitely the hardest, tiniest creature I made!

That's it for this week! For more of this, follow along on Instagram if you aren't already! And don't forget to subscribe to The Tinker Mail!
